Oil and Gas

Oil plant - Experience on oil sands mining , SAGD, CSS, solvent injection and upgrader projects for Syncrude, Imperial Oil , Shell , Suncor , Connacher , South Pacific , PDVSA and Total. Work as lead or senior engineer . Prepare overall plant simulations (HYSYS for oil and gas, steam and heat balance, OLI and spreadsheet for water balance and chemistry analysis), design basis, EIA support. Expertise on produced water treatment, energy integration, power and thermal generation. Performed many produced water treatment studies for new and conventional technology evaluation , selection , risk analysis and life cycle costs estimates and engineering development - oil/water separation, API tanks, filters ,warm and hot lime softening, ion exchange , membrane (UF, Nano, RO) , evaporator , crystallizer and dryer or deep well injection for zero liquid discharge. Thermal (steam, hot water , glycol and hot oil) generation - once through steam generator (OTSG) , drum boilers , hot water and hot oil heating systems. Power generation - gas turbine, steam turbines, COGEN. Overall water balance and energy integration to optimize water usage, GHG and energy intensity per produced BBL oil. Mentor junior engineers and designers.

Project management support include – WBS and scheduling support; vendor bid, submission review and evaluation, Operation data collection and analysis, cooperate with operations and production engineers, operators and other technical personnel to perform bottleneck identification, identify and implement alternatives for enhanced operation.

Simulation - HYSYS and other ASPEN platforms - OLI , Flarenet , PIPESYS. Hydraulic benchmark for flow assurance - Joseph's model and PIPESYS.

Oil Refinery - From feasibility study to detailed design to start up , worked as area lead process engineer for crude oil refineries of Irvin Oil , Total , Shell , PetroChina , Sinopec , Suncor and Kuwait National Oil. Expertise on utility and offsite facility configuration and engineering design development - include overall water system balance and treatment , steam and energy balance, power and thermal generation , tank farm , fuel gas system, cooling water system (include sea water cooling).

Gas – 100MMscfd (ultimate 400MMscfd) grassroots gas plant for Shell. Executed regulation review, HYSYS modeling, PFD and P&ID, control philosophy, development of oil/water/gas separation and dehydration system. Participated in HAZOP review.

Mining
Hydrometallurgy - Heavy metals (Cr , V) extraction from oil sands upgrader residues. Prepared PFDs , mass and heat balance , equipment list and estimate support.
Oil Sands - Operation data benchmark for new plant design for Syncrude Canada.

Water and Wastewater
Process Engineering - Design and build potable water and wastewater treatment plants(WWTP). Include 90000m3/day activated sludge WWTP upgrade to biological nutrient removal plant in Edmonton - Biowin simulation , engineering design , construction support and operator training.

Various portable water and sewage treatment plant for communities, military base and vacation village in Africa, Canada, China and Mid East .
